The adidas Tubular range debuted in 2014 to generally positive reviews. It was seen as one of adidas’ first steps in a new direction and arguably helped usher in the start of an age where the German sportswear giant has begun to dominate (in terms of hype and critical acclaim – Nike still rules the sales figures by a wide margin). The Tubular range had been oddly devoid of any notable collabs before early this year when, as part of the adidas Consortium World Tour, Kith got their hands on the brand new Tubular Dooms.
Now the previously collab-less and seriously underappreciated Tubular Nova is making an appearance on the tour as Milan based Slam Jam have decided to give the Nova the love it deserves. The lower cut model, featuring the signature Tubular sole and a subtle soft leather cage and toebox. The devil is in the details with this collab, with the subtle detailing punctuated by the frayed upper that you’d be forgiven for missing at a glance. In a world where distressed styling has definitely been overused to the point of becoming boring, to see it so well executed on such a clean sneaker collab is a breath of fresh air.
The adidas Consortium x Slam Jam Tubular Nova will get 2 drops; one at SJS on the 29th and another on Saturday 2nd July at End, Footpatrol, SNS and Hanon.
